Loving your body is an important factor for self-confidence. Taking care of your body is even more important.
— Dr. Mark Anton, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon
A healthy diet and lifestyle benefit your overall quality of life and helps you to look your best at every age. Sometimes though, diet and exercise alone can’t achieve your body goals. Plastic surgery helps men and women achieve their personal best. Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery for sculpting and defining the curves of your body to more ideal proportions by reducing fat from one or more problem areas such:

Candidates for Curved Liposuction with SDS have fat areas in problem areas that are not resolved with a healthy diet, exercises or lifestyle changes. Often times it can be something you were born with or maybe something that has become more bothersome with age or for women, after pregnancy.
The goal of liposuction is always to balance the body. It is not a weight-loss tool. In general, Curved Liposuction patients are within ten pounds of their ideal, healthy weight and have been maintaining that weight for 6 months or longer. Liposuction can be performed on women and men on any part of the body presenting with excess fat.
For men, the Daddy Do-Over procedure is popular because it addresses the dreaded dad bod - love handles, belly fat, and “man boobs”. Curved Liposuction flattens the tummy, defines the waist, and removes fat from the breast. A fat transfer to the upper chest pole creates the pectoral definition men often lose with age. For women, liposuction addresses all areas of the body including some of the most problematic: saddlebags, muffin top, chubby knees, arms, and cankles.

At Aesthetics MD, our signature procedure, Curved Liposuction with SDS created by Dr. Mark Anton, uses a special patent-pending cannula designed to follow the curve and angulation of the body. Liposuction surgery creates balance in the body and can be combined with other surgical procedures such as Mommy Makeover, breast surgeries, facial surgeries, and Lower Body Lift.
Curved Liposuction corrects disproportions in one or more parts of the body. It can be used to soften curves, create curves, or remove unwanted curves in any part of the body where there is excess fat. The benefits of Curved Liposuction include:
Most other liposuction techniques (conventional, Smart lipo, Power lipo, Ultrasonic lipo, etc.) use a straight cannula and that makes it extremely difficult to stay in the correct plane around the body. Curved Liposuction with SDS uses a patent-pending curved cannula that allows the cannula to stay in the most optimal plane, the middle layer of fat.
This avoids removing fat too close to the skin or too deep near the bone and muscle, which can contribute to the creation of depressions and irregularities. Another surgical advantage for Curved Liposuction is minimal number of incisions needed. Conventional liposuction generally requires many more incisions, that are visible outside the bikini areas.
Curved liposuction can address the entire body, front and back, from below the breast to below the knees with just four, small, hidden incisions in the pubic area and buttocks creases that are shorter than the width of a pencil. Curved Liposuction also helps to tighten skin by applying a technique called SDS or subdermal stimulation. SDS does not heat the skin as other devices which can often lead to irregular tissue scarring contour deformities. SDS is a safe technique for tightening the skin and stimulating collagen and elastin to help the skin smoothly adhere to the newly created contours.
During your consultation at Aesthetics MD, you will discuss your areas of concern. Skin elasticity and expectations will also be addressed at this time. It is common to combine several areas of the body during one surgery and is often necessary to achieve the optimal result of a better overall shape and contour for the entire body. Curved Liposuction with SDS is performed in an accredited outpatient facility under general anesthesia using Board Certified Anesthesiologists.
The procedure can take anywhere from one to six hours depending on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed. A maximum of five liters or about 11 pounds of fat can be safely removed during one surgery. Small incisions, about 1/8-inch in length, are strategically placed in well-hidden areas of the body. Incisions are covered with paper tape and generally scaring is very minimal and in most cases unnoticeable once healed.
Many patients considering a liposuction procedure have a misconception that the surgically removed fat shows up in another part of the body, or that once the fat has been removed from an area it can never return to that area. Neither of these is a correct assumption. In a liposuction procedure, not all the fat cells are removed from the treated area. Removing all the fat cells from the area would be undesirable and increase the risk of post-surgical complications like skin irregularities and larger defects.
When sculpting the body with Curved Liposuction, fat cells are removed from a middle layer of fat. This leaves fat cells just below the skin’s surface and just above the muscle and bone. If a liposuction patient gains weight after surgery, they will gain it in the area that was treated in the remaining fat cells as well as all over the body. It can seem to the patient like weight is only being gained in the non-treated areas because they don’t notice the pounds creeping on as readily in the treated area. This is why maintaining the post-surgical target weight (preop weight – lipo weight removed = post-op target weight) by using a scale after liposuction is critical.
For example, if a patient’s weight before liposuction was 140 pounds and 10 pounds of fat were removed during surgery, then the patient’s new weight is 130 pounds. This will be the new target weight. Even if the patient had been maintaining a stable 140 pounds before surgery, the new weight maintenance accounts for the pounds removed during surgery. When people don’t use the scale to monitor their post-op weight, then they might gradually let their weight creep up and only notice the weight gain in the areas not treated with liposuction and think the weight only goes to those areas. But the truth is that the weight goes everywhere. They are just bigger overall. Yo-yo dieters or people who have never been able to get their weight under control are not encouraged to optimize their weight before having liposuction surgery.

Most patients wake from surgery feeling groggy, tired and just wanting to sleep. Mild to moderate pain and discomfort are to be expected; however, it is usually alleviated by prescribed pain medication. Overall, most patients feel their surgery was less painful than anticipated, and they are able to discontinue their pain medication after 4-5 days.
Patients generally go home after surgery to rest and recover. Overnight care is available but not necessary. Patients must wear a surgical compression garment 24/7 for the first two weeks post-op. During that time, fluids are restricted to one cup of coffee per day and 16 ounces of water or other fluids.
After two weeks, a lighter garment like Spanx may be substituted and worn for the next 4 weeks or as doctor recommends. Fluids are increased based on weight after surgery and swelling. Most patients return to light sedentary work 4 to 5 days after surgery. Your activities will be restricted for a full two-week period after surgery including no lifting, bending or straining of any kind. You will be advised during your post-operative appointments regarding these restrictions. The healing process varies from patient to patient and is decided on an individual basis.
The results of your Curved Liposuction surgery take several months to fully appreciate. You might notice an immediate improvement in body proportions, but after surgery, there is a considerable amount of swelling in the entire body and bruising in the treated areas. Most patients find liposuction mild to moderate pain that is easily managed with pain medication and by following post-operative instruction that includes nothing for the first two weeks that raise your heart rate or blood pressure such as:
Patients with non-physical desk jobs return back to work once they are off of all pain medications, generally after 5 days. Patients with physically demanding jobs where they are on their feet all day require a full two weeks off before returning to work. Incisions heal quickly but can appear red for up to one year after surgery when they typically fade and are not noticeable. The results of your Curved Liposuction surgery last a lifetime providing you maintain a healthy weight with diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.
