A Gynecomastia surgery, more commonly known as a Male Breast Reduction is performed on male patients to reduce the current size, shape, and volume of the breasts by removing excess tissue and skin.
— Dr. Mark Anton, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon
This procedure also involves reshaping the breasts and reducing the overall size of the breasts and occasionally the areolas. A good candidate for gynecomastia surgery has one or more of the following concerns:
During your consultation with Dr. Anton and throughout the pre-operative process, you will discuss your preference, expectations and what is realistic based on your pre-operative breast size and quality of the skin. This is a personal and individualized process for each patient.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia and can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on how much breast tissue and skin needs to be removed. All incisions are internal; there are no external sutures. The incisions are made around the Areola area.
Most patients wake from surgery feeling groggy, tired and just wanting to rest. You will be wrapped in a compression bandage and some mild to moderate pain is to be expected, however, it is usually alleviated by prescribed pain medication. Overall, our Newport Beach gynecomastia surgery patients feel their surgery was less painful than anticipated and are able to discontinue their pain medication after 4 to 5 days.
